Greenway 2The initial phase of the Lower Station Camp Creek Greenway is on schedule to be completed by the end of next month providing the county with a scenic, creek-side walking and biking trail.

The project includes construction of approximately 3,800 LF of a 10 foot concrete greenway walk from the Ocana Community Club on Long Hollow Pike to a trailhead and parking area at the Douglass-Clark house, alongside Lower Station Camp Creek with a bridge crossing the creek to another trailhead and parking area at Stone Creek subdivision.

The phase will go the parking lot at Station Camp Middle School, behind the school property with a spur to hook to the elementary school, by the high school, on to the corner of Bison Trail and Lower Station Camp Creek Road. The last phase will be from Bison Trail back to the trailhead at Stone Creek subdivision.

Holt also said that, at some point, he hopes to bridge back across the creek at Saundersville Station to connect that Hendersonville subdivision to the trail.

Greenway 1According to Kim Ark, Sumner County Grant Administrator, the purpose of the greenway project is to address a top priority for the community and region by providing adequate pedestrian and bicycle facilities. “The county is currently lacking thenecessary infrastructure in the project area,” she said. “The project goals are to increase mobility while reducing traffic volumes, improve safety and connectivity and improve the pedestrian /bicycleinfrastructure in the county. This greenway infrastructure project will make a difference in the surrounding community by improving the transportation options available to residents and providing a safe mode of travel for cyclists and pedestrians.”

The long term goal is to have connectivity between Hendersonville and Gallatin.

Civil Constructors of Franklin, Tenn. is the prime contractor for construction of Phase 2 with current construction cost of approximately $1,359,000. The engineer on the project is Wiser Company. Engineering design and construction engineering inspection fees for Phase 2 are $148,241 for greenway/restroom/trailhead and $50,000 for bridge.
